Milan, 3 May 2004

MEDIA Salles, a project that, with the support of the European Union's MEDIA Programme and the Italian Government, promotes European films in the cinemas, is organizing the event Focus on Europe - Kidflix Special.
In 2004, this international meeting will be held at the 44th Film Festival for Children and Youth of Zlín that, as the President Vítezslav Jandák has said, "will be the first film festival to be held in one of the countries that just became a member of the European Union".
From 3 to 6 June, approximately 40 exhibitors from all over Europe, having in common the commitment to programming for a young public and for schools, will meet up at Zlín to review a selection of European films for children and teens appropriate for international circulation and to share, through seminars and discussions, the most significant experiences in cinema screening and in the realization of promotional activities.

Focus on Europe's programme will be completed by visits to several cinemas at Prague: participants will be able to gain first-hand experience of the modes of cinema-going for children offered by the Czech capital.
According to a by now consolidated tradition, during the event, MEDIA Salles will assign the two categories of the "Euro Kids" award: the first is dedicated to the cinemas that have presented the best activity of programming and promoting of European youth cinema and the second regards European teen films with potential for high-levels of international distribution.

The event will start this coming 3 June at Zlín, where MEDIA Salles will confirm its commitment so that cinema may become, as commented by the President of the Association, Jens Rykaer, "a meeting place of fruitful exchange and reciprocal know-how in a Europe where an ever greater number of citizens can recognize themselves in the slogan that we chose at the beginning of our activity: Europe meets at the cinema - Evropa se scházi v kine".
