| Dear friends, once
again it is at a children’s film festival that we meet to exchange
ideas on how best to promote quality films for children in our movie theatres.
Following our positive experiences at the Castellinaria Festival in Switzerland,
at the Giffoni Film Festival in Italy and the International Film Festival
for Children and Youth of Zlín, in the Czech Republic, this new
edition of Focus on Europe – Kidflix Special reaches Sweden at a
festival, the BUFF, that makes its international vocation one of its strongest
points.
This is the same calling to which we respond with this catalogue, where
not only the titles are international but also the voices of those who
have contributed to it.
The films that appear in it, chosen from amongst those that best represent
the specific aspects of European productions for children and young people,
are, in fact, the fruit of the precious co-operation with festival directors
and cinema experts from various parts of Europe, who have agreed to report
their preferences to us.
In a separate section we have also decided to remember the films that
have won the MEDIA Salles’ “Euro Kids” award in previous
editions of the event. Indeed, to our great satisfaction, they have appeared
several times in the recommendations we have received.
We therefore trust that this catalogue will be a means of offering you
a flexible and helpful tool for your programming. Moreover, despite being
aware that this work is often hindered by obstacles determined by distribution
difficulties, we are nevertheless convinced that a constant search for
quality titles and a serious commitment to promoting the theatres that
host them, can contribute to defending that great cultural heritage for
which Europe is responsible.

Cari amici,
anche quest’anno è all’interno di
un festival per ragazzi che ci ritroviamo a confrontarci su come meglio
promuovere, nelle nostre sale, un cinema di qualità rivolto ai
giovani.
Dopo le felici esperienze del Festival di Castellinaria, in Svizzera,
del Giffoni Film Festival, in Italia, e del Festival Internazionale per
Bambini e Ragazzi di Zlín, in Repubblica Ceca, questa nuova edizione
del Focus on Europe – Speciale cinema per ragazzi approda in Svezia
in un festival, il BUFF, che fa della vocazione internazionale uno dei
suoi punti di forza.
La stessa vocazione cui noi rispondiamo anche attraverso questo catalogo,
che di internazionale ha non solo i titoli ma anche le voci che hanno
contribuito a realizzarlo.
I film che in esso compaiono, infatti, scelti tra quelli che meglio rappresentano
quei particolari aspetti della produzione cinematografica europea rivolta
ai bambini e ai ragazzi, sono frutto della preziosa collaborazione con
direttori dei festival ed esperti di cinema da varie parti d’Europa,
che hanno voluto segnalarci le loro preferenze.
In una sezione a parte abbiamo voluto ricordare anche i film che, nelle
precedenti edizioni di questo evento, sono stati premiati da MEDIA Salles
con il premio “Euro Kids”. Con nostro grande piacere, infatti,
essi sono più volte comparsi nelle segnalazioni che abbiamo ricevuto.
Confidiamo dunque di offrirvi, con questo catalogo, un agile strumento
che vi aiuti nel vostro lavoro di programmazione. E se siamo consapevoli
che in esso siete spesso ostacolati dai limiti imposti dalle difficoltà
distributive, siamo tuttavia convinti che una continua ricerca di titoli
di qualità, e un assiduo impegno nella promozione delle sale che
li ospitano, possono contribuire a difendere quel grande patrimonio culturale
di cui l’Europa è portatrice.
