SYNOPSIS

Eldra belongs to a Romany family who live in Wales. The girl is a dreamer, spending the evenings watching her mother's puppet shows and playing her father's harp. She loves animals and, above all, a little fox cub she has adopted. A classmate, Robat, is in love with Eldra and during the summer he tries to befriend her, discovering the Romany world a little at a time. However, adult prejudice is an obstacle to their friendship. Eldra's father is a Gipsy who has decided to stay put in one place and he has an important job: he is gamekeeper for the Lord of the Manor. This provokes resentment among the Welsh people and suspicion among his Romany family. Also standing between Eldra and Robat is the boy's elder brother, Trefor, a disillusioned young man who torments his brother because of his passion for literature and his love for Eldra.
