MEDIA Salles in a nutshell

Launched as an initiative by the associations representing commercial and arthouse cinemas in the various countries of Europe, and in collaboration with the MEDIA Programme approved by the European Union in 1991, MEDIA Salles has been in operation since then with the added support of the Italian Government. The Association is non-profit and has always regarded the provision of services to the European audiovisual industry as the hub of its mission, with a particular emphasis on cinema exhibition and initiatives for the promotion of European movies, information and training.

With regard to information, in 1992 MEDIA Salles conceived the "European Cinema Yearbook", reaching its 28th edition in 2019. It provides statistical data on the trend of cinema-going in all European countries and on the leading world markets. Over the past few years, a census of Europe’s digital cinemas has been added together with facts and figures regarding digitization worldwide.

MEDIA Salles’ publications, such as the “European Cinema Yearbook” and those devoted to the digitization of cinemas (DiGiTalk and DGT online informer) can be consulted on the Association’s website.

In the field of promotion, MEDIA Salles is constantly monitoring the international distribution of Italian films.
